The seal of the Osmania University (OS) is the adaptation of its earlier versions. It has the letter ‘ع’ (Ain) the starting letter of its name in Urdu, ensconced by a banner which has formed itself into a shape of shield with festoons. The top portion of banner has its motto in Sanskrit ‘तमसो मा ज्योतिर्गमय’ (Yajnavalkya,1.3.28, Pavamana Mantra, Brihadaranyaka Upanishad) meaning ‘From Darkness Lead me to Light’ is written; the sides of the shield are written with its name in English and on the hangings its name is written in Telugu. The shield symbolises protection, courage, heritage, authority and bravery.

The wheel is surmounted by a banner inscribed with the abbreviated name of the college and supported by a banner inscribed with its motto in Sanskrit ‘विद्या ददाति विनयम्’ (Narayan Pandit, 6, Hitopadesha) meaning ‘Education Makes one Humble’. The emblem is crested with a torch with flame. DURGA SOREN UNIVERSITY (DSU) The emblem of Durga Soren University (DSU) features a Greco-Roman style facade with columns supported by a pair of laurels and a star and surmounted by the motto of the university in Sanskrit ‘नास्ति विद्यासमं वित्तं नास्ति विद्यासमं सुखम्’ meaning ‘There is No Wealth Like Knowledge, and There is No Happiness Like Knowledge’.
