The circular emblem of Tamil Nadu Government M.G.R Film and Television Institute (FTIT) features the motifs of a film strip wrapping around a camera or projector-like device placed on a stage with stage or podium lights. Its motto ‘High & Higher’ is written on the edge of the filmstrip. The motifs are ensconced by a broad circular golden border inscribed with the name and place of the Institute. The film strip represents the medium of cinema and the process of filmmaking, from capturing moments to storytelling. The camera or projector-like structure symbolises the technical aspects of the craft, the equipment used in the industry, and the act of projecting stories to an audience. The stage or podium with lights signifies performance, production sets, and the spotlight of the entertainment world. The circular shape with the institute's name and location encircling the central image provides institutional identity and a sense of completeness or a holistic approach to film and television education.
