THENI GOVERNMENT MEDICAL COLLEGE AND HOSPITAL (TGMCHEN)

The oval-shaped emblem of Theni Government Medical College and Hospital (TGMCHEN) features the motifs of the Staff of Hermes or Staff of Caduceus with a pair of wings and entwined by a pair of serpents and crested by a traditional lamp. A set of red, cyan and yellow circles are placed eccentrically one over the other above the lamp. Below the Staff the year of establishment of the college is written. These motifs are ensconced by an oval border inscribed with the name and place of the college and the motto of the college ‘Rural Health - Our Greatest Health’. The eccentric circles refer to the fundamental energies of passion (red), intellect (blue), and creativity (yellow) interacting in a non-traditional or unpredictable way. The eccentric positioning suggests that these aspects are not in perfect harmony, but rather in a state of flux or an unconventional relationship. The lamp symbolises light, illumination, awakening, devotion, purity, guidance, protection, hope and prosperity. The staff with the snake has long been a symbol of medicine and the medical profession.

THE DOGRA REGIMENT The Dogras who form the hardy and loyal population of the hill regions of Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir have a long tradition of soldiering. The Dogras formed into a regiment in 1887 and three Dogra Regiments were raised as part of the Bengal Infantry and the Dogra Scouts come under the aegis of the Dogra Regiment. Its Regimental Centre is Fazizbad, Uttar Pradesh and its insignia is a tiger, revered as the mount of Goddess Durga, who is a widely worshipped deity in the Dogra Hills. Its Regimental motto is ‘Kartavyam Anvatma’ (Duty Before Death) and its war cry is ‘Jawala Mata Ki Jai’ (Victory to Goddess Jawala). Its insignia is A Tiger, revered as the mount of Goddess Durga, who is a widely worshipped deity in these regions.

THIRUVALLUVAR UNIVERSITY The Thiruvalluvar University was established in Vellore district of Tamilnadu by the Government of Tamilnadu in October 2002 under the Thiruvalluvar University Act, 2002. The emblem of the university has a shield supported by a banner placed in a dark green circular background. On the shield the picture of the Thiruvalluvar seated is placed on top and below this a pair of praying hands, lotus with leaves on water and an elephant are placed.
