The emblem of Government Arts College, Coimbatore (GACBE) features a shield housing the motifs of an open book, a traditional lamp, a mountain range, a honeycomb with honey bees, cotton plant and a pair of gear wheels. The shield is supported by a banner inscribed with the motto of the college in Latin ‘Sapere Aude’ (Epistles, Horace) meaning ‘Dare to Know’. The shield denotes protection, courage, heritage, authority and bravery; the lamp symbolises ; the book refers to knowledge, education, learning and wisdom; the mountain range refers to the local geography of the Western Ghats; the honeycomb and the bees refer to community, hard work, order, and sweetness, representing unity through their intricate hexagonal structures and tireless efforts, while their honey signifies divine gifts, healing, abundance, and eloquence; the cotton plant and the gear wheels refer to the cotton and textile industry of Coimbatore.
