The shield-shaped emblem of A. V. C. College (Autonomous) (AVC College (Autonomous)) features the motifs of a lotus, supported by a coconut tree, a veena and a pair of male elephants, a ‘kuthuvilakku’, (a traditional lamp), a sheaf of paddy with five crests, a dancing peacock and the gopuram of the Sri Mayuranathaswamy Temple. Below the shield, on a yellow banner, the motto of the college in Tamil ‘கற்றனைத்தூறுமறிவு’ (Thiruvalluvar, 396, Thirukkural) meaning ‘Knowledge Grows As Much As One Learns’ is inscribed. The shield denotes protection, courage, heritage, authority and bravery; the lotus denotes purity, enlightenment, rebirth, transformation, personal growth, resilience, overcoming obstacles and divine beauty; the elephants refer to the college’s affiliating university; the tree symbolises strength, individuality, expression, calmness, growth, the interconnectedness of everything and perpetuity; the peacock refers to the place of the college; the veena refers to the arts, culture and heritage; the lamp symbolises light, illumination, awakening, devotion, purity, guidance, protection, hope and prosperity; the temple gopuram symbolises the heritage and history and divine grace and guidance; and the sheaf of paddy refers to the philanthropic families of Anbanathapuram, Enathimangalam, Pallavarayapettai, Karugudi and Kanganamputhur villages to which the founders belong.
