The emblem of Adhiyaman Arts And Science College for Women (AASCW) features an image of king Adhiyaman with poet Avvaiyaar ensconced by a yellow circular border inscribed with the name and place of the college. Below the seal, on a yellow banner, the motto of the college ‘Prosper and Help Others to Prosper’ is inscribed. The image symbolises Adhiyaman Neduman Anji (a 1st-century CE chieftain of Thagadoor, modern Dharmapuri) and the renowned Tamil poet Avvaiyar shared a famous, deep bond of friendship and mutual respect. As a dedicated patron, Adhiyaman gifted Avvaiyar a rare, immortal Nellikani (gooseberry) fruit, enabling her to live longer and continue serving Tamil literature.

SAMBALPUR UNIVERSITY The Sambalpur University Act was passed by the Odisha Legislature on December 10, 1966 and the University started functioning from January 1, 1967. The university was inaugurated on January 4, 1967. In 1973 the University was shifted to the present campus named Jyoti Vihar at Burla. The emblem of the university has the motifs of gear wheels, chimney and electric transmission tower representing industry; plough representing agriculture; deer representing the local wildlife; an open book denoting knowledge and wisdom; a torch symbolising light, truth and power; the Wheel of Konark symbolising Odisha’s culture and history and river symbolising Mahanadi. All these are ensconced by a circular border and along the border the name of the university is written. The motto of the university in Sanskrit ‘विद्यया विन्दतेऽमृतम्’ (Verse 4 II, Kena Upanishad) meaning ‘By Self-knowledge Immortality is Attained’ is written at the bottom of the emblem.
