The emblem of Adhiyaman Arts And Science College for Women (AASCW) features an image of king Adhiyaman with poet Avvaiyaar ensconced by a yellow circular border inscribed with the name and place of the college. Below the seal, on a yellow banner, the motto of the college ‘Prosper and Help Others to Prosper’ is inscribed. The image symbolises Adhiyaman Neduman Anji (a 1st-century CE chieftain of Thagadoor, modern Dharmapuri) and the renowned Tamil poet Avvaiyar shared a famous, deep bond of friendship and mutual respect. As a dedicated patron, Adhiyaman gifted Avvaiyar a rare, immortal Nellikani (gooseberry) fruit, enabling her to live longer and continue serving Tamil literature.

UNIVERSITY OF JAMMU The University of Jammu (UoJ) came into existence in 1969 through the Kashmir and Jammu Universities Act 1969 following bifurcation of the erstwhile University of Jammu and Kashmir. The circular emblem of the university has an open book supporting a lotus with a background of mountains and surmounted by atomic structure. These are ensconced by a yellow circular border which carries its motto in Sanskrit ‘तमसो मा ज्योतिर्गमय’ (Yajnavalkya,1.3.28, Pavamana Mantra, Brihadaranyaka Upanishad) meaning ‘From Darkness Lead me to Light’ on one side and its name in Kashmiri on the other side. The motto is written in Sanskrit which is an extract from the Kathopanishad ‘विद्ययाऽमृतमश्नुते’, (Shloka 11, Ishopanishad) meaning ‘Immortality is Gained from Learning’.
