The emblem of Government Arts and Science College, Tharangambadi (GAASCT) features a shield inscribed with the images of a  stack of books, a bar chart, a computer monitor and an image of Tharangambadi Fort, also known as Fort Dansborg. The shield is supported by a pair of laurels and surmounted by the motto of the college in Tamil ‘உள்ளத்தனையது உயர்வு’ (595, Thirukkural, Thiruvalluvar) meaning ‘A Person is As High As His Will’. The motifs are ensconced by a blue circular border inscribed with the name and place of the college. The shield denotes protection, courage, heritage, authority and bravery; the books refer to knowledge, education, learning and wisdom; the barchart refers to economics and finance; the computer refers to technology and the Tharangambadi Fort refers to colonialism and imperialism.

SAMBALPUR UNIVERSITY The Sambalpur University Act was passed by the Odisha Legislature on December 10, 1966 and the University started functioning from January 1, 1967. The university was inaugurated on January 4, 1967. In 1973 the University was shifted to the present campus named Jyoti Vihar at Burla. The emblem of the university has the motifs of gear wheels, chimney and electric transmission tower representing industry; plough representing agriculture; deer representing the local wildlife; an open book denoting knowledge and wisdom; a torch symbolising light, truth and power; the Wheel of Konark symbolising Odisha’s culture and history and river symbolising Mahanadi. All these are ensconced by a circular border and along the border the name of the university is written. The motto of the university in Sanskrit ‘विद्यया विन्दतेऽमृतम्’ (Verse 4 II, Kena Upanishad) meaning ‘By Self-knowledge Immortality is Attained’ is written at the bottom of the emblem.
