The circular emblem of Dr. N.G.P. Arts and Science College (DRNGPASC) features a traditional lamp supported by an open book in a shield surmounted by a rising sun and a banner inscribed with its motto in Tamil ‘கற்றனைத்து ஊறும் அறிவு’ meaning ‘Knowledge Grows As Much As One Learns’. This assemblage is ensconced by a circular border inscribed with the name of the college and its year of its establishment. The lamp symbolises light, illumination, awakening, devotion, purity, guidance, protection, hope and prosperity; the book refers to learning, education, knowledge and wisdom; the shield denotes protection, courage, heritage, authority and bravery; and the sun represents life, energy, power, positivity, illumination, light and clarity.

SAMBALPUR UNIVERSITY The Sambalpur University Act was passed by the Odisha Legislature on December 10, 1966 and the University started functioning from January 1, 1967. The university was inaugurated on January 4, 1967. In 1973 the University was shifted to the present campus named Jyoti Vihar at Burla. The emblem of the university has the motifs of gear wheels, chimney and electric transmission tower representing industry; plough representing agriculture; deer representing the local wildlife; an open book denoting knowledge and wisdom; a torch symbolising light, truth and power; the Wheel of Konark symbolising Odisha’s culture and history and river symbolising Mahanadi. All these are ensconced by a circular border and along the border the name of the university is written. The motto of the university in Sanskrit ‘विद्यया विन्दतेऽमृतम्’ (Verse 4 II, Kena Upanishad) meaning ‘By Self-knowledge Immortality is Attained’ is written at the bottom of the emblem.
