The circular emblem of Arignar Anna Government Arts College-Villupuram (AAGACV) features a ‘gopuram’ (temple tower) supporting a lotus on water, an open book, a traditional lamp and a clock ensconced by a green circular border inscribed with the name of the college in Tamil. Below the seal, on a banner, the motto of the college in Tamil ‘ஓதல் ஒழுக்கம் ஒற்றுமை’ meaning ‘Study Discipline Unity’ is inscribed. The gopuram denotes the State of Tamilnadu and its rich heritage; the lotus denotes purity, enlightenment, rebirth, transformation, personal growth, resilience, overcoming obstacles and divine beauty; the book refers to knowledge, education, learning and wisdom; the lamp symbolises light, illumination, awakening, devotion, purity, guidance, protection, hope and prosperity; and the clock symbolises the passage of time, mortality, and life's fleeting nature, representing cycles of birth and death but also urgency, discipline, and the ‘now’ through their circular form and moving hands.

SAMBALPUR UNIVERSITY The Sambalpur University Act was passed by the Odisha Legislature on December 10, 1966 and the University started functioning from January 1, 1967. The university was inaugurated on January 4, 1967. In 1973 the University was shifted to the present campus named Jyoti Vihar at Burla. The emblem of the university has the motifs of gear wheels, chimney and electric transmission tower representing industry; plough representing agriculture; deer representing the local wildlife; an open book denoting knowledge and wisdom; a torch symbolising light, truth and power; the Wheel of Konark symbolising Odisha’s culture and history and river symbolising Mahanadi. All these are ensconced by a circular border and along the border the name of the university is written. The motto of the university in Sanskrit ‘विद्यया विन्दतेऽमृतम्’ (Verse 4 II, Kena Upanishad) meaning ‘By Self-knowledge Immortality is Attained’ is written at the bottom of the emblem.
