The emblem of Government Arts College (Autonomous) (GAC) features a yellow, red, green, blue shield housing the motifs of an astronaut landing on another planet, image of poet and philosopher Thiruvalluvar, and a pair of elephants supporting a Dharmachakra surmounted by a blue banner inscribed with the name of the college and supported by another blue banner inscribed with the motto of the college in Tamil ‘புதியதோர் உலகம் செய்வோம்’ meaning ‘Let's Create A New World’. The shield denotes protection, courage, heritage, authority and bravery; the astronaut symbolises scientific advancement, exploration, and the pursuit of modern knowledge; Thiruvalluvar represents traditional wisdom and ethical knowledge; elephants represent strength and heritage, and the Dharmachakra symbolises nationalism, law, virtue, and justice.
