The emblem of Government Arts College (Autonomous) (GAC) features a yellow, red, green, blue shield housing the motifs of an astronaut landing on another planet, image of poet and philosopher Thiruvalluvar, and a pair of elephants supporting a Dharmachakra surmounted by a blue banner inscribed with the name of the college and supported by another blue banner inscribed with the motto of the college in Tamil ‘புதியதோர் உலகம் செய்வோம்’ meaning ‘Let's Create A New World’. The shield denotes protection, courage, heritage, authority and bravery; the astronaut symbolises scientific advancement, exploration, and the pursuit of modern knowledge; Thiruvalluvar represents traditional wisdom and ethical knowledge; elephants represent strength and heritage, and the Dharmachakra symbolises nationalism, law, virtue, and justice.

The Board has its headquarters in Pune, Maharashtra that is close to the principal grape growing and processing areas in the country. SAMBALPUR UNIVERSITY The Sambalpur University Act was passed by the Odisha Legislature on December 10, 1966 and the University started functioning from January 1, 1967. The university was inaugurated on January 4, 1967. In 1973 the University was shifted to the present campus named Jyoti Vihar at Burla. The emblem of the university has the motifs of gear wheels, chimney and electric transmission tower representing industry; plough representing agriculture; deer representing the local wildlife; an open book denoting knowledge and wisdom; a torch symbolising light, truth and power; the Wheel of Konark symbolising Odisha’s culture and history and river symbolising Mahanadi. All these are ensconced by a circular border and along the border the name of the university is written. The motto of the university in Sanskrit ‘विद्यया विन्दतेऽमृतम्’ (Verse 4 II, Kena Upanishad) meaning ‘By Self-knowledge Immortality is Attained’ is written at the bottom of the emblem.
