The red and green insignia of Madhya Pradesh Medical Science University (MPMSU) is a red shield with green border and gold outlines. It has a gold banner at the bottom of the shield on which its name and year of inception is written in Devanagari. The shield houses the motifs of an open book supporting Staff of Hermes with a pair of entwined serpents and wings. The Staff represents medical profession and medicine, the open book denotes education, learning, knowledge and wisdom; the colour red denotes and the colour green symbolises. The green border is inscribed with its motto in Sanskrit ‘तमसो मा  ज्योतिर्गमय’ (Yajnavalkya,1.3.28, Pavamana Mantra, Brihadaranyaka Upanishad) meaning ‘From Darkness Lead me to Light’and its slogans ‘Strive for Excellence’ and 'Service to Humanity’.
