The emblem of Government Vellore Medical College (GVMC) features the motifs of Vellore Fort with Sri Jalakandeswara Temple supported by the Staff of Hermes or Staff of Caduceus with a pair of wings and entwined by a pair of serpents. These motifs are surmounted by the name of the college and supported by its year of establishment. All these are ensconced by a circular outline. The motto of the college ‘Learn to Heal’ is inscribed on a banner placed below the seal. All these elements are placed in a circle with a green border. The Vellore Fort and the temple are the historical and well-known landmarks of the city of Vellore. The staff with the snake has long been a symbol of medicine and the medical profession.
