Below the shield, on a banner, the motto of the college ‘Faith Endeavour Power’ is inscribed. The shield denotes ; the Cross and the church identify the college as a Christian institution and signify sacrifice, love and holiness; the palm tree refers to the region where the college is located; the star represents perfect harmony among all things in life, with its points providing insight into how we can strive towards achieving this goal; the book refers to knowledge, education, learning and wisdom; and the lotus - the national flower denotes purity, enlightenment, rebirth, transformation, personal growth, resilience, overcoming obstacles and divine beauty.

SAMBALPUR UNIVERSITY The Sambalpur University Act was passed by the Odisha Legislature on December 10, 1966 and the University started functioning from January 1, 1967. The university was inaugurated on January 4, 1967. In 1973 the University was shifted to the present campus named Jyoti Vihar at Burla. The emblem of the university has the motifs of gear wheels, chimney and electric transmission tower representing industry; plough representing agriculture; deer representing the local wildlife; an open book denoting knowledge and wisdom; a torch symbolising light, truth and power; the Wheel of Konark symbolising Odisha’s culture and history and river symbolising Mahanadi. All these are ensconced by a circular border and along the border the name of the university is written. The motto of the university in Sanskrit ‘विद्यया विन्दतेऽमृतम्’ (Verse 4 II, Kena Upanishad) meaning ‘By Self-knowledge Immortality is Attained’ is written at the bottom of the emblem.

WESTERN AIR COMMAND The origin of the Western Air Command can be traced back to the nascent years of independent India, when the various formations of the Air Force were organised into two groups. On July 22, 1949 the No 1 Operational Group was re-designated as the Operational Command. The Command assumed its present name of Headquarters Western Air Command on June 10, 1963. Headquarters Western Air Command, located at Subroto Park, New Delhi, has over 200 bases placed under its command and has been involved in all major operations in India since independence. Due to its geographical location the Command has always been the hub-centre of all operational activities during any operation. Its insignia has a ‘trishul’ and an eagle in the centre of a circle which is topped by India’s national emblem. Its motto in Sanskrit ‘Akashmasthseema’ in golden border is placed at the bottom.

Mandal University was established on January 10, 1992 and is named after Bhupendra Narayan Mandal, who was a freedom fighter. The red circular emblem of the university has a circle housing the motifs of a banyan tree, an open book, a wheat plant with heads and a pair of swans in its four quadrants. These are ensconced in a border with red outlines. The border is inscribed with its motto in Sanskrit ‘सा विद्या या विमुक्तये’ (Rishi Parāśara, Viṣṇu Purāṇa ) meaning ‘Knowledge is One that Liberates’ and its name in Devanagari.
