HIGHER EDUCATION AND RESEARCH

Bharath Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) started with Sri Lakshmi Ammal Educational Trust as the first self-financing engineering college in Tamilnadu in 1984 by Dr. S. Jagathrakshakan. The trust established Sree Balaji Dental College and Hospital in 1989. It was recognized as a Deemed to be University by MHRD in July 2002 and named as Bharath Institute of Higher Education and Research (BIHER). The emblem of the university has a red gear wheel with yellow borderlines bearing the motto of the university ‘To the Stars by Hard Work’ supported by stars. This houses anorange circle with motifs of a computer, atomic structure, caduceus or the staff of Hermes entwined by a pair of snakes and a pair of dental tools. This is supported by a yellow banner on which its acronym is inscribed. The gear wheel symbolises the cycle of life, continuous action, precision and productivity. The colour yellow and red are colours of passion, strength, creativity, innovation and enlightenment.
