The emblem of Atal Medical and Research University (AMRU) is is a shield with thick cyan border which houses its acronym, its name in English and Devanagari, a motif of Mount Himalayas, Staff of Hermes with a pair of entwined serpents and wings and a stack of three books. Below the shield on an orange banner its motto in Sanskrit ‘सर्वे भवन्तु सुखिनः सर्वे सन्तु निरामयाः’ (1.4.14, Brihadaranyaka Upanishad ) meaning ‘May All be Happy May All be Healthy’. The shield symbolises protection, courage, heritage, authority and bravery; the colour cyan denotes sky, hope and spring, peace, tranquillity, calmness, relaxation, emotional balance; the Staff of Caduceus or Hermes denotes medicine and medical education; the Himalayas represent geography of the locale; the books denote knowledge, education, wisdom and learning and the colour orange means energy, vitality, creativity, inspiration, joy and happiness.
