The University of Hyderabad (Hydarāvād visvavidyālayamu) is a top ranking public Central research university located in Hyderabad, Telangana, India. Founded in 1974, this mostly residential campus has more than five thousand students and four hundred faculty, from several disciplines. It has a red circular emblem supported by a banner. The emblem has motifs of an atom and energy depicted on an open book and nuclear energy and its radiation ensconced in a circle. These are circumscribed by a banner above by its name. At the bottom, on a banner its motto is written Sanskrit. It is quoted from a verse of Vishnu Purana (1.19.41). The motto is ‘सा विद्या या विमुक्तये’ meaning ‘Education Leads to Liberation’.
