TRIPURA UNIVERSITY

Tripura University began as a Postgraduate Wing of Calcutta University, in 1976 and transformed into a State University in 1987 and eventually a Central University in 2007. The emblem of the university has a sun in the centre of a circle surrounded by thirteen persons joining hands forming a lotus, is ensconced by a blue border on which its name is written on top and its motto ‘Pursuit of Excellence’ is at bottom. A circular blue border encompasses all these. Sun is the symbol of energy, light and power; thirteen in Hindu shastra and it means ‘trayodashi’. It is stated that if one does anything on that day, it will give good, positive results. The lotus is a symbol of purity, knowledge and wisdom. Joined hands of humans denotes collectivism and the strength of unity.
