The Government of India decided to establish Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology (SLIET) in 1985 in the memory of the revered saint Sant Longowal and it was formally inaugurated on December 20 1991. The blue colour emblem of the university has an open book placed in a gear wheel, which placed above a glowing sun and ensconced in a circle. This is circumscribed by two borders with blue outlines. The inner one has its name written on it and the outer border has its name written in Devanagari along with its motto in Sanskrit ‘योगः कर्मसु कौशलम्’ has been adopted from Shrimad Bhagwat Gita (Chapter 2. Verse 50), meaning ‘Yoga is Excellence at Work’. The open book symbolises knowledge and wisdom; the gear wheel symbolises interconnectedness; efficiency and precision; progress and advancement; synchronisation and timing; order and structure and the sun symbolises light, universal prosperity and path for growth.
