GOVERNMENT MEDICAL COLLEGE DHARMAPURI (DMCDPI)

The emblem of Government Medical College Dharmapuri (DMCDPI) features a Staff of Hermes or Staff of Caduceus with a pair of wings and entwined by a pair of serpents crested by a torch with flame and supported by a stethoscope, placed on a background of the waterfalls of Hogenakkal. These motifs are ensconced by a blue border inscribed with the name of the college and its year of establishment. The seal is supported by a pair of laurels on sides and a banner at the bottom inscribed with the motto of the college ‘Educate Etiquette Empower’. The staff with the snake has long been a symbol of medicine and the medical profession. It originates from the story of Asclepius, who was revered by the ancient Greeks as a god of healing and whose cult involved the use of snakes. The waterfall refers to the local landmark; torch with flame is an emblem of enlightenment, hope, life, truth and the regenerative power; the laurels are symbols of ceremonies, victory, achievement, hard work and dedication; the stethoscope refers to the medical profession.

NATIONAL LAW INSTITUTE UNIVERSITY The National Law Institute University (NLIU) has been established by Act No. 41 of 1997 of the Madhya Pradesh Legislature to fill the gap and provide the most modern legal education through multidisciplinary teaching and training of newer skills needed for the profession. The University launched its first academic programme in 1998. The red circular emblem of the university has its acronym written in the middle, topped by a yellowish drop of enlightenment, knowledge, wisdom and realisation. Its name is written in Devanagari and ENglish around the pictorial. The Lion Capital crests the assembly. The open book refers to knowledge, education, learning and wisdom.

PALM The palm is a symbol of Jain religion. The lower portion of this palm shows fearlessness and symbolize the feeling of non-violence ‘Ahimsa’ towards all the creatures in this world. The circle in the middle of the hand symbolizes the cycle of reincarnation ‘Samsara’ and the 24 spokes represent the preachings of the 24 Tirthankars – ‘enlightened souls’, which can be used to liberate a soul from the cycle or reincarnation. The mantra of ‘Ahimsa’ at the bottom of emblem means ‘Live and Let Live’ - ‘Parsparograho Jivanam’. All creatures should help one another. The wheel of dharma with 24 spokes represents the religion preached by the 24 Jain Tirthankars which consist of nonviolence - ‘Ahimsä’, compassion, Aparigraha, Anekäntvaad and other virtues and equality of all the souls.

Mangos are the sweetest of fruits, symbolizing auspiciousness and the happy fulfillment of legitimate worldly desires. In Sanskrit the design is known as mankolam and has long been used in India. In Tamil, ‘ma’ means Mango and kolam means rangoli pattern, suggesting a possible Tamil origin for the Sanskrit word.
