TATA INSTITUTE OF SOCIAL SCIENCES
TATA INSTITUTE OF SOCIAL SCIENCES |
The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) was established in 1936 as the Sir Dorabji Tata Graduate School of Social Work. In 1944, it was renamed as the Tata Institute of Social Sciences. The year 1964 it was declared ‘Deemed to be a University’ under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act (UGC), 1956. The emblem of the institute is crafted as an archway in a green background with an old tree with a big trunk and number of branches each looks like an icon of human, representing the collective social transformation and growth. The archway is circumscribed by its motto in Sanskrit ‘भविष्य कि पुनर्कल्पना’ meaning ‘Re-imagining Futures’ in black. At the bottom the acronym of its name is written, supported by a line.
