GOVERNMENT CHENGALPATTU MEDICAL COLLEGE AND HOSPITAL (CMCCPT)

The emblem of Government Chengalpattu Medical College and Hospital (CMCCPT) features a Staff of Hermes or Staff of Caduceus with a pair of wings and entwined by a pair of serpents and crested by a ‘Nandi’, circumscribed by its name and year of establishment. The motif is supported by a brown banner inscribed with the motto of the college in Tamil ‘தூய்மை தொண்டு தியாகம்’ meaning ‘Purity Service Sacrifice’. The staff with the snake has long been a symbol of medicine and the medical profession. It originates from the story of Asclepius, who was revered by the ancient Greeks as a god of healing and whose cult involved the use of snakes. Nandi symbolises unwavering devotion, righteousness (dharma), strength, and purity, serving as Shiva's mount (vahana) and gatekeeper, eternally gazing at the Lingam to represent the individual soul (jiva) focused on the divine, embodying patience and spiritual readiness for meditation and wisdom.

Accordingly, the Government of India declared the forensic science Institutions, as Science and Technology institutions. In the first phase, the three Central Forensic Science Laboratories at Calcutta, Hyderabad, and Chandigarh were restructured into six scientific division viz. Biology, Ballistics, Chemistry, Explosive, Physics and Toxicology. The green toned circular emblem of the university has a motif of a farmer tilling the soil using cattle and plough placed over an open book signifying the knowledge, wisdom and education of agriculture.
