The motif is supported by a brown banner inscribed with the motto of the college in Tamil ‘தூய்மை தொண்டு தியாகம்’ meaning ‘Purity Service Sacrifice’. The staff with the snake has long been a symbol of medicine and the medical profession. It originates from the story of Asclepius, who was revered by the ancient Greeks as a god of healing and whose cult involved the use of snakes. Nandi symbolises unwavering devotion, righteousness (dharma), strength, and purity, serving as Shiva's mount (vahana) and gatekeeper, eternally gazing at the Lingam to represent the individual soul (jiva) focused on the divine, embodying patience and spiritual readiness for meditation and wisdom.
