AWADHESH PRATAP SINGH UNIVERSITY

Awadhesh Pratap Singh University (APSU) was established on July 20, 1968 as a State university of Madhya Pradesh. The university has been named after the freedom fighter Capt. Awadhesh Pratap Singh, the first Prime Minister of Vindhya Pradesh. It was recognized by the UGC in February 1972. The emblem of the university has a traditional lamp with a halo and with rays glowing  supported by an open book placed on a small table bearing its Sanskrit motto ‘तेजस्विनावधीतमस्तु’ (Ved Vyasa, Kata Upanishad) meaning ‘May the Study of Both of us be Brilliant’. These are ensconced by a yellow border which has the name and place of the university inscribed in Devanagari. The traditional lamp symbolises light, illumination, awakening, devotion, purity, guidance, protection, hope and prosperity and the open book symbolises education, knowledge and wisdom.
