The Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT), Odisha, located in Rourkela was established in November 2002 through an Act of the Government. The emblem of the university has a semicircular gear wheel and semicircular Wheel of Konark together forming a full circle houses a traditional lamp. These are ensconced in a circular border, which bears the name and place of the university. Its motto in Sanskrit ‘योगः कर्मसु कौशलम्’ (Verse 50, Chapter 2, Bhagavad Gita) meaning ‘Yoga is Skill in Action’ is written on a banner placed below the seal. The gear wheel denotes interconnectedness; efficiency and precision; progress and advancement; synchronisation and timing and order and structure; the wheel of Konark Sun Temple represents the State of Odisha; the traditional lamp denotes light, illumination, awakening, devotion, purity, guidance, protection, hope and prosperity.
