Pravara Institute of Medical Sciences was established under Section (3) of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Act 1956 on September 29, 2003 through Government of India, Ministry of Human Resource Development Notification No. F.9-11/2000-U-3. The university is managed by Pravara Medical Trust of Loni, Ahmednagar District of Maharashtra. The trust was founded by Padmashree Dr. Vitthalrao Vikhe Patil and Padmabhushan Dr Balasaheb Vikhe Patil. The emblem of the university is in green colour and has a globe that forms the background for the motifs of the Staff of Hermes entwined with a pair of serpents and supported by an open book. A graph line of pulse goes across the globe. Its name and status is inscribed around the globe. All these are supported by a pair of laurels on its sides. The Staff of Hermes and the line of pulse represents medicine and medical profession; the open book denotes education; knowledge and wisdom; the laurels are symbols of victory and achievement and the globe represents education, knowledge, influence, timelessness, global unity and interconnectedness. The colour green symbolises agriculture, nature, growth, balance, harmony, environment, prosperity, vitality, prestige, wealth and being very down to earth.
